Ignorance is one of the most dangerous plagues known to mankind because people are wired to fear what they do not understand. It consumes the distracted and traps those cut off from information. It makes people gullible. It turns them into sheep.
Prevention is always the best way to avoid issues. If we properly educate children in civil responsibility, perhaps we would not have as much crime.
If we teach children history, maybe they will learn not to repeat it. If we teach them about the power of their own minds, emotional regulation, and respect for others, perhaps our state would not rank so high in domestic violence nationwide.
In the past month, our lawmakers and representatives have made it absolutely clear that education is not a concern for them. I have seen proposed bills seeking to tax exotic dancers. Oklahoma has a governor who is far more concerned about being recognized as Cherokee than making sure kids in Oklahoma know how to read. I have seen senators like Mullin wage war against English and make a mockery of politics while making themselves filthy rich in the process.
When is it going to be enough?
When will Oklahomans stop voting for their own demise? I am not saying education will solve all of Oklahoma’s issues, but I can assure you it will prevent many of them.
Please, whoever you vote for, make sure education is one of their top priorities. Our future lies in the hands of the newer generations.
Let’s give them the best chance possible so they can make the world a little better than the mess we are leaving behind.
