MAGA men are submissive. They have to be submissive in order to be MAGA. If we leave behind the theatrics of the alpha patriot male and their need to impose dominance over others, we are left with a person who is desperate to please, belong, and to be told how to feel and how to think.
This submissiveness is clearest in how easily their convictions shift. In 2024, these were the same men consumed with anger over gas prices and the rising cost of living. Now that same economic pressure is met with embarrassing compliance.
The voices that once demanded an end to war as a matter of principle now excuse military escalation. Their beliefs are not anchored in the Christian values they claim to uphold. They simply reflect whatever they are told to believe in that moment.
Hardship does not bother them as long as it is imposed by the man to whom they have willingly submitted. These men are willing to accept a declining quality of life as long as they are not the ones at the very bottom. As long as there are people beneath them to blame, whether immigrants, women, or other vulnerable groups, they can still feel a sense of status and security.
The mindset of MAGA is: “We are willing to live miserably as long as someone else has it worse.” Treating the suffering of others as a kind of psychological reward for their obedience.
The greatest deception in this dynamic is the belief that loyalty guarantees safety. These men watch the movement go after “the others” and convince themselves they have secured a place among the protected. But any culture built on submission and the constant need for enemies will eventually turn inward. The circle of “us” only keeps getting smaller.
The tragedy of the MAGA man is not only that he has surrendered his voice, but that he mistakes his submission for power, when in reality he is only waiting for the master to choose him next.
