For too long, the standard for our representatives has been too low. People have gotten too comfortable with the idea that the establishment will remain unchanged and that hope is only for the naive. For too long, we have allowed politicians to use their position as a golden ticket to access an inner circle that will make them filthy rich at the expense of the people who elected them.
Today, I talked to a friend who had no clue who her representatives were. A fully functioning adult with no interest in and total apathy toward politics. How is this possible? I believe the responsibility is shared. What effort has Kevin Hern made to connect with Oklahomans? Has Kevin Stitt ever attempted to consult the community or listen to their concerns on issues that affect everyone? I feel people stopped caring because their representatives stopped caring for them.
A governor, a senator, or a representative should never be out of reach of the people who trusted them with power. Each one of them has the responsibility to guide and educate the community so everyone can do their part for the betterment of Oklahoma.
A leader should provide guidance and hope. Why do we feel so disconnected, then? We need to do a better job of caring. That is the responsibility we share. This time, let’s choose someone who is active in the community. Someone who isn’t afraid to speak about the issues affecting Oklahoma. Someone who will listen to you and answer your questions. And most importantly, someone who will not lie to you.
At this point, it’s not about party alignment. I genuinely believe we need to choose someone who makes education a priority. We have all witnessed the damage someone like Ryan Walters has done to Oklahoma. No more religious indoctrination. Let’s not make that mistake again.
Please, vote blue.
