Multiple sources have reported to us that ICE is actively operating in Muskogee. ICE is working in coordination with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and local law enforcement agencies. They are equipped with advanced data analysis technology from Palantir, software that allows access to facial recognition tools, flock cameras and databases not available to the public.
Racial profiling is a common practice for ICE. People are being targeted based on accent, appearance, and assumptions. Minor traffic violations and other easily avoidable infractions are being used as grounds for detention, which then escalate into immigration enforcement encounters.
Please, stay out of trouble as much as possible. Do NOT give law enforcement reasons to stop you:
- Obey all traffic laws
- Do not drive under the influence
- Avoid phone use while driving
- Ensure vehicle registration, insurance, and lighting are current.
Reports indicate people are being stopped for issues that could have been easily avoided. We urge the public not to physically interfere with law enforcement officers or attempt to obstruct an arrest.
Those seeking to support affected individuals and families are encouraged to:
- Document the time, location, and agency involved. Record and take as many pictures as you can.
- Assist family members in locating detained individuals. Ask as many questions as possible.
- Help connect individuals with immigration attorneys or legal aid organizations
- Assist with childcare, transportation, or other basic needs
- Offer emotional and logistical support rather than confrontation
We will continue monitoring the situation and will provide updates as more information becomes available. Thank you for all your reports.
